It was enclosed in 1987 after being sold to New York-based Jacobson’s, Inc.

Things To Do In Bellevue Square

1. Carousel

The mall has an original Wurlitzer carousel that was originally played by a live organist. The organ was later replaced by Wurlitzer’s electronic sound. In December 2006, the carousel closed for the second phase of a $1 million restoration project, during which time the original mahogany horses were sanded and repainted in their original colors of blues and golds; the wood figures of children were refurbished, and all horses received new manes and tails made from real horse hair. The restoration also included replacing all electrical hardware with safer plastic wiring and renovating the control system to provide smoother operation and brighter lighting.
