The superhero and sci-fi-themed “Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse” movie expands upon one of the most popular characters in history by exploring what life would be like for her if she actually became real. It’s an exciting and fresh way to bring modern storytelling back to pop culture, something we could use some more of these days. I know that’s quite a statement to make, but when you think about it, it actually makes perfect sense. Mattel already has a ton of momentum behind Barbie; she has over 250 million dolls sold worldwide alone. Now, we are going to see her in action and get an inside look at what life might be like for her if she actually became real. I’m so excited to be able to review this movie! I was blown away when I first saw the trailer for it. It is wonderfully well-done and well-thought-out a film, and I can’t wait to share my thoughts with you. The Story
A young girl named Sofia is left alone with her mother after her mother moves on with her new life. Sofia has now stuck in the house all alone. Her father used to tell her that her dreams could really come true. She would always beg him to get her some help and be more like his friends. But he was always too busy with his job. Sofia lived a pretty charmed life, and she could only imagine the kind of life she would have if she could become real.
One day, Sofia’s father comes home to find that his keys aren’t working in the door. He goes around the house, trying to find a spare key, but none are in sight. Then, he sees a large red door that leads to a secret room where nothing is ever seen. How does he get there? I have no idea! He goes inside the room and finds something there…does it have anything to do with his keys? I’m not entirely sure, but apparently. Sofia’s father finds some kind of tool or device that will help him find the secret key.
I was so confused by this scene because it made absolutely no sense. I had no idea what was going on and who her father was. It all seemed very random and out of place for a movie about Barbie movie. I’m not entirely sure I can even say it is a good scene because it was so poorly edited and transitioned. It was a huge portion of the movie, and yet it seemed to be lacking some very important information.
Before your mind starts racing with questions and concerns, we’ll get to the bottom of the mystery soon. For now, we need to know what’s going on with Sofia.
Sofia is distraught by her mother’s newfound happiness and leaves her behind. This means that her father has to take care of her as well. Sofia’s father starts to leave for work, but before he does, he takes Sofia on a ride in the car to a place called the Dreamhouse. The dreamhouse is where all of their dreams come true; it’s where all of her dreams come true. She stares up at the sky and is amazed at how beautiful this place is.
As they are driving down the road, they suddenly find themselves stuck in traffic. It turns out that they were not going to their regular destination after all and were just passing through to make their way there. Sofia is so confused and upset by the fact that her father will not tell her where they are going. But he seems to be more concerned about getting there quickly.
We find out that Sofia’s father is driving to the dreamhouse. But it doesn’t go entirely into detail on how they got there. There is no map or directions given as to how they were able to get there. It just comes up as a destination on the GPS at one point. I had no idea how they were able to get there in the first place, and yet it wasn’t explained at all.
