Kelsey Creek Farm is one of the most recognized and beloved attractions in the Chesapeake Bay region. Located in Dorchester County, Maryland, it’s a beautiful sight to see: a green field with haystacks and horses grazing nearby, white fences dotted with black-and-white cows turned into silhouettes by the setting sun. The farm opened in 1958 and was owned and operated by Robert E. Lee III, a great, great-grandson of the notorious Confederate general.
Since its opening, it had been listed on the National Register of Historic Places for more than 30 years (6-14-82) as one of Maryland’s most recognized places due to its significance. No matter how far Kelsey Creek Farm has driven off from the national capital, people often associate it with the past two centuries because of its name. They have commemorating prizes and certificates, published books and magazines or documentaries related to this mysterious place across time zones which symbolizes “rebirth” and “healing”.
Remembered by many as a sort of reincarnation of 19th century American history, many archeologists have made a finding that the original Cherokee scout leader James Kelso (1730-1812) used to live here. He was one of the first settlers in Maryland who founded or assisted to found over 200 villages and hamlets during the lucrative boom period of Lancaster County’s land before 1760. He had 6000 acres including seven slaves or servants during King George’s War (November 1744 – April 1748). After signing a document called “the treaty of peace” with Belvoir Manor on August 11th, 1752 he became one of the 18 signatures for this county as “James Kelsey”. Both his name and an Indian head symbol were engraved on his stone tombstone which was kept in Oxford

There will be hayrides, face painting, pumpkin picking, and more. This is a great opportunity for people to learn about how Kelsey Creek Farm operates and to see some of the animals up close.
